Vortex is another abstract interpretation of the same helical staircase featured in The Portal, this time photographed with a wider lens to reveal more of the structure’s sweeping geometry. My intention was to amplify the sense of height and create a deeper visual pull, allowing the staircase to spiral dramatically toward the central skylight.
By composing the staircase so that it leads the eye upward into the light - paired with the children playing above - I wanted to evoke the sensation that they were being drawn into a vortex. Their presence adds a subtle narrative tension, reinforcing the illusion of upward motion and the surreal pull of the architectural form. .
