This is a 12" x 18" open edition photographic print of my limited edition artwork "Take Off", which is a black and white architectural abstract of the Lloyd's building in London. Almost every architect and architectural photographer to have visited London will be familiar with the Lloyd’s building. Designed by British architect Richard Rogers (now Richard Rogers & Partners) and built in 1986, it stands as a defining example of Bowellist architecture, where all the building’s services are located on the outside of the building in order to maximise internal space.
The building has been photographed extensively over the decades by many photographers, so my intention was to create an interpretation that was but unique and distinctive. That clarity emerged in the editing process. The resulting image resembled a spacecraft taking off, thus inspiring the name. .
